Founded in 2018 in Playa de Ponce, Puerto Rico, Un Nuevo Amanecer (UNA) formed after hurricanes and earthquakes exposed government neglect. Resident-led, UNA focuses on disaster prep, cleanups, and green infrastructure—securing over $2 million for projects like a Resilience Hub, flood protections, and a renewable energy grid. In 2025, they celebrated major wins: a resilience plan, federal sewage action, and a mutual aid fund for solar power, clean water, and food. Ludwig Medina visited Ponce in 2021 and again after Hurricane Fiona in 2022, documenting the devastation and the power of the organization’s leadership.
